DMK calls ED’s raids at TN Education Minister’s premises ‘political vendetta’

Chennai: In a move labelled as a "political vendetta" by the party, the Enforcement Directorate conducted searches at locations connected to K Ponmudy, the Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister and prominent leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Monday.

The DMK has strongly criticized the searches, saying that they are politically motivated. Further details regarding the nature and outcome of the searches are yet to be revealed.

However, this incident has raised speculations that the raid was orchestrated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to intimidate the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), especially since Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was participating in an opposition gathering in Bangalore led by the Congress at the time.

Expressing their dissatisfaction with the Enforcement Directorate raid, DMK spokesperson A. Saravanan denounced it as an act of political vendetta aimed at testing the DMK's resilience.

The party highlighted the lack of similar actions taken against members of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) when they faced serious corruption allegations such as the gutka scandal.

The DMK firmly believes that the raid is a mere display of threats and political vendetta in the midst of heightened tensions between the DMK and BJP, as indicated in responses by party leaders.

Chief Minister M. K. Stalin and other members of the DMK have made significant efforts to eradicate BJP influence in the state. Consequently, the DMK argues that this raid serves as a clear demonstration of the BJP's attempts to undermine and intimidate their party.
