Divvy up the state, calls Tamil Nadu BJP leader

Chennai: Nainar Nagendran of the BP wants the south Indian state be split into two, in order to bring more federal schemes for its progress.

The BJP's leader suggested the idea a day after DMK leader A Raja demanded autonomy for Tamil Nadu as well as appealing the Centre not to make his party push for a separate Tamil nation, according to NDTV.

At a protest meet against Raja here, Nagendran said if Tamil Nadu was bifurcated "we" would be able to bring the Centre's schemes to people better, and there will be more funds if BJP comes to power in the state.

Raja made the comments addressing his party's members while chief minister MK Stalin was present.

Raja said he was appealing Amit Shah and PM Modi not to push the party to Periyar's way, reminiscing how the father of Dravidian movement called for an independent Dravida Nadu decades before.

Raja's call for autonomy once again brought to fore Periyar's erstwhile call for the same.

However, Tamil Nadu having 38 districts hosting 234 assembly constituencies does not have any such feelings.at the grassroots for an independent nation or autonomy.

The BJP is a smaller party in Tamil Nadu with just four MLAs, and DMK warned BJP that the party would only decimate if any bifurcation of the state happens.

BJP last year proposed the idea of Kongu Nadu carving out the state's western belt including Coimbatore, which it later abandoned.
