Thane: Amid Bakrid preparations, a section of residents from a housing complex in Maharashtra’s Thane objected to a Muslim man bringing a goat to his house, the police said on Wednesday.

A video of the incident went viral on social media in which the neighbours were seen shouting at the man.

The police held discussions and pacified the residents of the housing society located in the Bhayander area following the incident on Tuesday evening, a station house officer (SHO) at Mira Road police station said.

The man named Mohsin Sheikh informed the police that he has been bringing goats to his house ahead of Bakrid every year as he has no other place to keep them.

“The man takes the goat away the next day and the animal is not slaughtered at his residence,” the officials said.

The man has now been told to take the animal out of his house in the presence of police, he said.

No formal complaint has been received in this connection and no offence registered, the official added.
