Dense fog at Delhi Airport prompts advisories from airport authorities and airlines

New Delhi: Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in the national capital issued a passenger advisory on Thursday morning as dense fog significantly reduced visibility, prompting the implementation of Low Visibility Procedures (LVP).

While flight operations were initially reported as normal at the time of the 4:30 a.m. advisory, authorities cautioned that weather conditions could impact schedules and urged travellers to verify flight status with their respective airlines.

Major airlines, including SpiceJet, Air India, and IndiGo, responded to the conditions across North India by issuing their own travel alerts. SpiceJet warned that departures and arrivals in Delhi could be affected and advised passengers to check their website for updates. Air India announced that poor visibility might impact its primary hub in Delhi and other airports in northern and eastern India over the coming days.

To mitigate passenger inconvenience, Air India highlighted its 'FogCare' initiative, offering advance alerts, fee waivers for flight changes, and full refund options for affected bookings. IndiGo specifically noted disruptions in Chandigarh, cancelling some flights as a safety precaution. The fog coincides with deteriorating air quality in the capital; on Thursday morning, Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 356, classified as 'very poor', with thick smog further hampering visibility across the National Capital Region.
