Delhi shocker: Lawyer beats elderly couple over feeding stray dogs!

New Delhi: A disturbing incident has emerged from Delhi's Paschim Vihar, where an elderly couple was allegedly assaulted by a lawyer for feeding stray dogs. The brutal attack, captured on camera, surfaced on social media, sparking outrage.
In the video, a man wearing a blue t-shirt can be seen hitting the elderly woman. Both victims sustained head injuries, with blood visible on their wounds and the woman’s clothes soaked. The video was first shared by a dog-lover on Instagram handle ‘telefauna’ and later by Nikita Yadav, who also posted a statement from the woman.
The elderly woman, Niti, alleged that the accused, Jai Ram Garg, a resident of her building, frequently harassed and abused her over feeding stray dogs. She claimed that Garg struck her on her chest and other private areas and said that despite standing outside the police station for over an hour, no help was provided. She accused police of pressuring them to agree to a compromise.
An FIR has been filed in the case. Four people detained in connection with the incident have since been released.
The incident comes amid Supreme Court directives regarding stray dogs. The top court recently ordered that stray dogs be released after sterilisation and that aggressive or rabid dogs be kept in shelters. It prohibited feeding stray dogs in public areas and directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to create designated feeding zones in municipal wards. On August 11, a bench ordered that all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR be shifted to shelters within eight weeks, following the court’s suo motu notice of rising dog bite incidents in the region.
