New Delhi: The Delhi government on Tuesday, announced that it would provide 450 types of medical tests cost-free beginning from January.

Initially, the tests will only be available at Mohalla clinics which are present across the city, and the facility will be extended to all government hospitals later on.

Common tests including CT, Ultrasound scan, Haemoglobin test, stool routine, kidney function test, liver function test, lipid profile, and blood glucose random test will be free beginning from January 1.

The move comes after Chief Minister Aravind Kejriwal approved the Health department's proposal for extending the types of free medical tests to 450.

"The plan is still in the initial stage cost-free and we have been working on it for the past one year. For now, the 212 tests which are available at Mohalla clinics are being extended to 450 tests," said an official.

"Providing good quality health and education to all, irrespective of anyone's economic status, is our mission. Healthcare has become very expensive. Many people can't afford PVT. healthcare. This step will help all such people," Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.

Kejriwal-led AAP had a sweeping victory in Delhi MCD polls, by winning 134 wards ending the 15-year hold of the BJP in the area.

Previously, the ruling party AAP had announced that along with education, health will be among the top priorities of the party.
