New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked on Wednesday during her weekly ‘Jan Sunvai’ at her official residence in Civil Lines, raising serious concerns over security arrangements.

Police said the attacker, a man in his 30s, has been arrested and is being interrogated. The motive behind the assault is yet to be confirmed.

According to preliminary accounts, the man approached the Chief Minister during the hearing, handed over some papers linked to a court case, and then suddenly attacked her. Unverified reports suggest he slapped her, pulled her hair, and hurled a heavy object, causing her to fall to the ground. There is no official account of the attack yet.

Sources said Gupta is under medical observation, and doctors will assess the extent of her injuries. Following the incident, security at her residence has been tightened, with senior Delhi Police officials, including the DCP, present at the spot. An investigation has been launched at the Civil Lines police station.

BJP state president Virendra Sachdeva condemned the attack and said he was on his way to meet the Chief Minister.

The weekly ‘Jan Sunvai’ draws hundreds of people to the Chief Minister’s residence as she listens to public grievances.

More details are awaited.
