Amid debate over no-trust motion against Dhankhar, RS adjourned till Dec 16
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The Rajya Sabha was adjourned on Friday until December 16 after a tense debate between the treasury and opposition benches over a no-confidence move against Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.
The opposition wanted a discussion of the issue, but the treasury benches resisted. The session was disrupted, resulting in its adjournment. The Congress-led opposition parties filed a no-trust motion notice demanding the dismissal of Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, accusing him of being 'extremely partisan'.
Amid the commotion, Dhankhar permitted Congress President and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, to speak, TNIE reported.
Kharge claimed that the Chairman was favouring MPs on the Treasury benches by allowing them greater time to speak and that the Congress was being disrespected.
In response, Dhankhar requested Kharge and House Leader JP Nadda to meet with him in the Chairman's chamber later that day in an attempt to settle the impasse. He then adjourned the proceedings until December 16.
