BJP leader, former MLA, two others join Congress in Manipur

Imphal: Even as Lok Sabha polls are just weeks away, four prominent political figures in the state joined the Congress dealing a blow to the BJP.
Former Yaiskul MLA Elangbam Chand Singh and BJP leader Sagolsem Achouba Singh are among those who crossed over to the Congress on April 1.
The other two personalities to follow suit are Advocate Oinam Hemanta Singh and Thoudam Debadatta Singh.
At a ceremony held at the Congress Bhawan in Imphal, Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, the Congress candidate for the Lok Sabha polls, welcomed the new members.
Dr. Akoijam called for people to make ‘informed decisions’ to uphold the unity and integrity of the state.
‘Manipur has a rich history of standing up for its integrity, with numerous movements launched over the years to safeguard its identity,’Dr. Akoijam reportedly said.
