BJP donations dwarf rivals by 10 times in 2024-25: ADR study

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party received over 10 times more donations than all other national parties combined in FY 2024-25, collecting Rs 6,074 crore from 5,522 contributions, according to a Thursday report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

Total donations to national parties reached Rs 6,648 crore from 11,343 contributions, marking a 161% surge of Rs 4,104 crore from the previous year. Congress trailed far behind with Rs 517.3 crore from 2,501 donations, up 84%. The Aam Aadmi Party reported Rs 38.1 crore—a 244% jump—while CPI(M) got Rs 16.9 crore (122% rise) and the National People's Party Rs 2 crore (1,313% increase). Bahujan Samaj Party declared zero donations above Rs 20,000, consistent with the past 19 years. BJP's collections leaped 171%.

Corporates dominated funding at Rs 6,128.7 crore, or 92.18% of the total, compared to Rs 505.6 crore (7.61%) from individuals. The Prudent Electoral Trust led as top donor with Rs 2,413.4 crore to BJP, Congress, and AAP: Rs 2,180.7 crore to BJP (35.9% of its total), Rs 216.3 crore to Congress (41.8%), and Rs 16.4 crore to AAP (43.1%).

ADR analyzed all contributions over Rs 20,000 to seven national parties.
