Kolkata: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday hit out at Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, accusing her of making derogatory remarks against Hindus and Scheduled Caste communities in West Bengal.

BJP leader Amit Malviya, who heads the party’s IT cell and serves as central observer for West Bengal, shared a video clip of Moitra’s speech delivered at a Trinamool workers’ meeting in Karimpur Block-2 on August 28. He demanded her immediate resignation from Parliament.

Malviya alleged that Moitra had insulted the Namasudra and other SC communities by questioning their political choices. In the video, Moitra is heard criticizing members of the SC, Namasudra and Matua communities for availing themselves of social welfare schemes under Mamata Banerjee’s government while largely voting for the BJP during elections. According to her, in SC-dominated constituencies, 85 out of 100 votes typically go to the BJP.

Malviya further accused her of mocking Hindu practices, saying she ridiculed the Vaishnav community’s belief in the sacred Kanthi Mala and derided beneficiaries of welfare schemes. “This is pure anti-Hindu, casteist hate speech. There can be no forgiveness for such communal venom,” he said.

He added that the BJP has always supported the Namasudra, SC and Matua communities, and urged them to demand Moitra’s resignation and hold her accountable for her remarks.

The controversy comes days after a BJP worker in Nadia district lodged a police complaint against Moitra at Kotwali Police Station for alleged derogatory comments about Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
