Chhatarpur/Madhya Pradesh: In a deadly accident here, where an auto rickshaw collided with a truck, on Tuesday, at least seven people died, and six others were injured. According to police, the auto rickshaw was carrying devotees.

The accident happened 5:30 am on the day near the Kadari area on National Highway (NH)-39, which is also known as (Jhansi-Khajuraho highway) NDTV reported.

The accident spot comes under the jurisdiction of the civil line police station in the Chhatarpur district, and the devotees in the rickshaw were going to Bageshwar Dham from Mahoba railway station, police said.

Asian News International quoted Superintendent of Police (SP) Agam Jain, "An accident occurred on Tuesday morning on Jhansi-Khajuraho highway where an auto rickshaw collided with a truck in which seven persons died and six others sustained injuries, who are undergoing treatment."

The officer said that the hospital management and the district administration are keeping a close watch on the arrangements and treatment of the injured, and every possible help is being provided to them.

Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Akhil Rathore said that, as per the initial information, the CNG-run auto-rickshaw rammed into a stationary truck from behind.

The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Prem Narayan (46), one-year-old Asma, Janardan Yadav (45), Manu Shrivastava (25), Govind Shrivastava (35) and Nanni Bua (42) and Lalu (age not known), the officials said.

Last Sunday, a deadly collision between a private bus and a pickup truck in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr killed at least ten people and injured 37 more.

District Magistrate Chandra Prakash told reporters that the pickup truck was travelling from Ghaziabad to Sambhal when it collided with the bus. Around 21 people were brought to the district hospital.
