AIUDF chief unveils Rs 100-crore rehabilitation package for flood-hit Assam

Guwahati: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief and MLA Badruddin Ajmal has announced a comprehensive Rs 100-crore rehabilitation plan for families affected by floods in Assam.
As part of the initiative, being implemented under the Ajmal Foundation, 10,000 low-cost houses and 10,000 toilets will be built for flood-affected families. Ajmal also said traditional Assamese attire, mekhela-sador, will be distributed to women affected by the floods, with the aim of reaching up to 10 lakh women.
He said the plan is focused more on long-term rehabilitation than immediate relief measures. The project has been designed to help flood-hit families return to normal life and ensure permanent housing and basic infrastructure.
Ajmal also said the foundation has already spent Rs 3 crore on distributing food items, essential supplies and medicines as part of post-flood relief work.
Thousands of people have been displaced after severe floods in upper Assam damaged homes, farmlands, roads and other infrastructure across several districts, causing major economic losses.
Ajmal, a prominent political leader with strong influence in Assam’s Muslim community, is also a businessman.
