New Delhi: Parts of the capital city today reported rainfall with visuals showing downpour lashing the streets of the RK Puram area.

The sudden downpour offered a welcome relief from the intense heat the city has been experiencing over several weeks.

Similar scenes of rain were reported from the National Capital Region (NCR), and Haryana's Gurugram.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the day began in the capital region with a partly cloudy sky with minimum temperature hovering at 28.4 degrees Celsius.

The Met also forecasts thunderstorms alongside rain in certain parts of the city later today.

The maximum temperature to expect in the city is around 40 degrees Celsius.

The Central Pollution Control Board reported a "moderate" category Air Quality Index (AQI) in the city with a reading of 157 at 9 am.
