New Delhi: The 18th BRICS Summit began at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, with strengthening economic cooperation among member countries and expanding partnerships in trade and technology among the key objectives of the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Centre of concealing slum areas in Delhi as part of preparations for the BRICS Summit. Slum areas in Vasant Kunj were reportedly covered with fabric. The AAP strongly criticised the Centre over the move, saying the truth could not be hidden despite attempts to conceal it.

The two-day summit is being held in Delhi. Extensive arrangements, including the display of flags of member countries, have been completed at Bharat Mandapam, the venue of the summit, and the International Media Centre.

The summit will also discuss ways to address disruptions in global markets caused by conflicts in West Asia and the Russia-Ukraine war. The External Affairs Ministry said steps would be taken to promote mutual understanding in trade and economic matters and help resolve global conflicts.

Meanwhile, a key bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled for 5.45pm. The India-China border dispute and measures to improve trade and commercial ties between the two countries are expected to be among the key issues discussed.
