7 more deaths in Maharashtra hospital as state cabinet meets today

New Delhi: Seven more patients died at the government hospital in Maharashtra's Nanded district taking the death toll to 31, India Today reported.
The Nanded District Information Office (DIO) in social media post appealed to the people not to panic, saying that ‘team of doctors is ready’.
‘The facts related to the death of patients at Dr Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital is as follows: 24 deaths between September 30 and October 1; seven deaths between October 1 and 2,’ District Information Office (DIO) said.
Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan also shared the DIO’s update on death toll.
The patients who died so far from are 15 children and 16 adults.
More death are reported a day after the authorities at Shankarrao Chavan Government Hospital linked the deaths to a shortage of medicines.
The hospital's dean said twelve adults were died of various ailments including snake bites, adding the 12 children who died included six girls and six boys.
Terming the hospital a "tertiary-level care centre", the dean said patients from remote place come as it is the only care centre in a 70-80 km radius.
The officer attributed the shortage of medicines to overwhelming number patients being admitted to the hospital, some exceeding ‘the institute's budget’.
The hospital on Tuesday stated there was no medicine shortage and the patients were in their “last stage”.
The Maharashtra cabinet is likely to l discuss the Nanded Hospital deaths today.
