31 Bangladeshi nationals sent from Bengaluru to Bengal for deportation

Bengaluru: As many as 31 Bangladeshi nationals detained from different parts of Bengaluru during a crackdown on suspected illegal immigrants were sent to West Bengal and handed over to authorities in Malda on Wednesday for further deportation procedures, police said.
The group was transported from Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) Bengaluru to Malda as part of the deportation process.
The nationals were detained from the jurisdictions of 10 different police stations across Bengaluru during a citywide operation targeting suspected illegal immigrants.
“The group reached Malda on Wednesday morning and was handed over to the authorities at the Karma Tirtha Holding Centre for further procedures related to their deportation,” police said.
The necessary formalities will be completed in coordination with West Bengal authorities before the nationals are deported to Bangladesh, police said.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh appealed to citizens to share information about suspected illegal immigrants with the police. He also cautioned people against taking the law into their own hands and urged them to inform the authorities if they have such information.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Electronic City) M. Narayana said the 31 Bangladeshi nationals were escorted by 20 police personnel during their journey to West Bengal.
Karnataka authorities are currently carrying out a major statewide crackdown on undocumented foreign nationals, primarily focusing on suspected illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, under an initiative called ‘Operation Mukta’.
In late August, Mangaluru City Police detained 21 suspected illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who were found working at local construction sites. As the dedicated foreigner detention centre in Bengaluru was at capacity, they were placed in a local safe house before being escorted to the BSF holding centre in Malda, West Bengal.
