What forced actor Abbas to take up jobs as a bike mechanic, taxi driver in New Zealand?

Former Tamil cinema heartthrob Abbas, known for his romantic roles in movies like "Kandukondain Kandukondain" and "Minnale," has resurfaced after an eight-year absence from the film industry. The actor, who had retreated to New Zealand with his family, recently opened up about his struggles with suicidal thoughts as a teenager and his decision to distance himself from the limelight.

Abbas, who has always been a private person, rarely granting interviews or engaging on social media, made an exception during the Covid-19 pandemic. Utilizing Zoom calls, he connected with fans to offer support and help to those struggling with suicidal thoughts.

The actor's empathy towards those feelings stems from his personal experience. During his teenage years, Abbas went through a turbulent period where he contemplated taking his own life after failing the 10th grade and experiencing the departure of his girlfriend. However, a profound realization changed his perspective. While contemplating stepping in front of a speeding vehicle, he considered the impact his actions would have on the lives of others, even in his darkest moment.

Abbas also addressed the issue of academic judgment, sharing his belief that people should not be solely assessed based on their academic achievements, as everyone possesses alternative talents and strengths. He stressed the importance of recognizing and nurturing those talents, while also encouraging men to open up about their emotions and break the silence around silent suffering.

Regarding his decision to leave the film industry, Abbas explained that financial difficulties resulting from the failure of some of his movies left him destitute. Pride initially prevented him from seeking alternative employment, but eventually, he approached producer RB Choudary for work. However, Abbas grew bored with the industry and decided to leave after advising his friends not to watch his Bollywood debut film, considering it a waste of time.

Facing bankruptcy four times, Abbas worked as a bike mechanic and drove taxis in New Zealand to provide for his family. Now that he has returned to India, Abbas wants to address rumours and concerns surrounding his well-being and a potential comeback. He acknowledges that his words have been misrepresented in the media, and he aims to clear up any misunderstandings.

Abbas never aspired to become an actor initially, but his life took an unexpected turn following the success of the film "Kadhalar Desam." Overnight, he became a heartthrob, unable to venture outside his house due to the immense love and attention from fans. At just 19 years old, he had initially taken up acting as a casual endeavour to earn some extra money.
