The Kerala Story struggles to find OTT buyers as Sudipto Sen alleges industry bias

The Kerala Story directed by Sudipto Sen has been mired in controversy ever since its release.

The film encountered numerous hurdles, including bans and controversies due to its sensitive portrayal of religious conversions, ISIS, and the conspiracy theory of love jihad.

Now, despite its success in theatres, the makers are facing difficulties in securing an Over-The-Top (OTT) platform to release the film, with Sudipto Sen claiming that the film industry has joined forces to punish them.

The Kerala Story premiered in cinemas on May 5 amidst a flurry of bans and controversies. Its controversial narrative on religious conversions and ISIS generated substantial buzz.

However, according to Bollywood Hungama, the film's producers are struggling to find a suitable OTT buyer for the movie, as they have yet to receive any favorable offers.

Sudipto Sen expressed his frustration, saying, " We still haven’t got a suitable offer from any OTT platform for The Kerala Story,” adding, “We are still waiting for a good workable deal from any of the main OTT platforms. But so far, we have not got any offer worth considering. It seems the film industry has ganged up to punish us."

When questioned about the reason for this alleged punishment, Sen explained, "Our box office success has irked many sections of the film industry. We have a feeling that a section of the entertainment industry has united to punish us for our success”.

The Kerala Story revolves around the life of a Hindu woman from Kerala, portrayed by Adah Sharma. The character is shown as manipulated into embracing Islam and is sent to Syria, where she is coerced into joining the ISIS and subjected to torture.

Directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the film has faced scrutiny ever since its trailer was released.
