Chennai: National award-winning Tamil director SP Jananathan died of a heart attack while being treated at a private hospital. The 61-year-old was found unconscious at home on Thursday.

In 2004, his debut film 'Iyarkai' won the National Award for Best Feature Tamil Film. His other films include E, Peranmai, Purampoku Engira Podhuvudamai. His movies were renowned for their various themes of social commitment.

His last film, Laabam, featured Vijay Sethupathi, Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu and Sai Dhanshika. He fell ill during the post-production work of the film.
