After the successful OTT release of Pratik Gandhi starrer 'Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story', netizens have taken up Sucheta Dalal who is the figure at the centre of the thrilling real-life story that was adapted by Hansal Mehta.

Based on the crimes of stockbroker Harshad Mehta, the series is getting appreciation and a solid 9.6 on IMDb, beating the likes of 'Breaking Bad', 'Chernobyl' and even 'Game of Thrones'. The scam, known as the 'mother of all Indian financial scandals', saw Harshad Mehta dealing in over ₹1000 crore in illegal transactions and his actions contributed to the stock market collapse of 1992.

"Every actor and technician has outdone himself in Hansal Mehta's seminal 'Scam 1992', unquestionably the best Indian limited web series of the year so far. But the real hero of the show is Sucheta Dalal, without whose grit and perseverance this story would have never been told," a Twitter user said. Others praised it as "the finest Indian web series ever made" and "a gripping experience."

The series is an adaptation of the events in 'The Scam: Who Won, Who Lost, Who Got Away' written by Padma Shri winning financial journalist Sucheta Dalal and her husband Debashis Basu. Sucheta exposed the scandal on 23rd April 1992 in a Time of India column. She doggedly pursued the luxurious lifestyle of stock market broker Harshad Mehta by looking at the sources of wealth he had gathered over years. Later she was also awarded the Chameli Devi Award given by the Media Foundation for excellence in journalism and the Femina's Woman of Substance Award for her work on the Harshad Mehta scam in 1992.

'Scam 1992' released on Sony Liv on 9 October this year. The web show features 10 episodes starring Pratik Gandhi as Stockbroker Harshad Mehta and also features Shreya Dhanwanthari, Anant Mahadevan, Rajat Kapoor and Hemant Kher as lead roles.

Kooki Gulati's movie 'Big Bull 'starring Abhishek Bachan is also set to release on 2020, and is based on the same story of the 1992 financial security scam.
