Mumbai: Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana on Safer Internet Day said that children and young people are vulnerable to the risks online. He said the dangers include bullying, abuse over private messages, and being trolled through offensive comments.

The actor has always given priority to movies on social issues. He said online violence is affecting the mental health and well-being of children. They tend to withdraw socially and the lack of a supportive environment prevents them from seeking help. Fear of losing access to the internet also discourages children from speaking up about the issues they are facing. This further compounds the ill effects of the abuse they suffer online, reported Pinkvilla.

He further said it is important to create a safe space for children so that they can understand when they face online abuse or privacy issues. "They should be made aware of the importance of maintaining privacy in the online world and they should make an informed choice while using the internet."

Children should know who to go to seek support whether it is parents, teachers, or peers. Adults should also be role models and lead the way by practising mindful online behaviour. "Only adults can influence children to access the internet and leverage its potential in transforming our lives," said the actor.
