Odisha: A 2019 short film 'Miyan Biwi Aur Banana' directed by Nina Srivastava is being sued for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the people of Odisha by portraying Lord Jagannath and Goddess Narayani in "poor light".

Debiprasad Dash, a lecturer in the Jajpur district, demanded an apology from the producer, director, and OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar.

The 20-minute comedy is being accused of disrespecting the Gods in its dialogues. The complainant said, "no one has the right to insult our lord." Dash said he is waiting for police action in the incident and if needed, he will go to court against the filmmakers.

The complaint notes that a mosquito in the film is named Jaganath and derogatory words were used referring to the mosquito. The film's narrator is named Narayani, the widow of Jagannath. The complaint also notes that the dialogues uttered by Narayani are unbearable.
