Harry Potter TV series coming this Christmas! HBO drops teaser!
text_fieldsHBO has unveiled the first teaser for its upcoming Harry Potter television series, confirming a Christmas 2026 premiere and marking the franchise’s return after years of tightly controlled production.
The preview introduces the central trio—Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley—played by newcomers Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout. The series begins with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, adapting the first of seven books by J K Rowling. The teaser revisits key moments, including Harry’s first encounter with Hagrid, the Sorting Hat ceremony and his debut Quidditch match, The Guardian reports.
The cast also includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. The project is led by showrunner Francesca Gardiner, with several episodes directed by Mark Mylod. Filming has been underway at Leavesden Studios in England since mid-2025.
Executives at Warner Bros. Discovery have positioned the series as a major streaming release, citing its scale and expected global reach. The multi-season format is intended to explore the books in greater depth than the earlier film adaptations.
Reaction from original franchise star Daniel Radcliffe has added to the discussion, with the actor expressing confidence in the new lead while reflecting on his own early performances.
The production has also faced scrutiny, particularly over Essiedu’s casting as Snape. The actor has reported receiving threats, underscoring tensions within parts of the fan community as the series approaches its release.
