Los Angeles: Greta Gerwing directorial 'Barbie' has been generating buzz since it was announced and the team has finally released a teaser giving the audience what to expect. The short video reveals Margot Robbie looking like the typical walking-talking Barbie.

But, since the movie is coming from Gerwig, the audience is sure that Barbie is not a typical movie.

In the teaser, she has paid homage to the iconic scene from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. The 'Dawn of Man' sequence from the 1968 film comes with a voiceover by award-winning actress Helen Mirren.

The video begins with a group of young girls playing with dolls. The narrator says: "Since the beginning of time, since the first little girl ever existed, there have been dolls. But the dolls were always and forever baby dolls until..." Now, Barbie Margot Robbie enters while Richard Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra. She is also seen wearing the outfit of the first ever Barbie doll ever made.

This is followed by a bright colour-themed montage that reminds you of the Barbie brand. This includes a very brief appearance of Ken played by Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu's dance sequence, and Issa Rae.

The teaser ends with the young girls breaking their dolls by smashing them on the ground.

Twitter has been loving the teaser and most users are celebrating 2001: A Space Odyssey reference. Several people shared the original iconic scene from Kubrick's movie. Some also shared a side-by-side comparison of the teaser and the original scene.

One Twitter user said Barbie should get the award for the best movie trailer.

Barbie will be released on June 21, 2023. It will be competing with Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer starring Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, and Robert Downey Jr.
