'From Nazneen to Naina' chronicles two decades of Kareena Kapoor Khan in Bollywood
text_fieldsChandigarh: 'From Nazneen to Naina,' written by Canadian journalist Gurpreet Singh, chronicles Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan's 20 years in Bollywood.
The book, officially launched on September 22 is based on the actor's film career. "This is a reflection of the growing intolerance in a toxic political environment created by those in power both within and outside the Indian film industry," said Gurpreet while speaking on the virtual book launch.
The book discusses Kareena's work and delves into her performances as an actor, activist, and philanthropist, attempting to draw connections between the current political situation and its impact on cinema.
Apart from her significant screen roles, the book also attempts to make a critical assessment of her position on issues such as racism, feminism, the environment, and state violence.
It also looks deeply into the challenges she faces being a flag bearer of secularism, which is reviled by religious bigots for marrying a Muslim man and adopting Khan as her surname. The couple named their sons – Taimur and Jeh – which have been interpreted as an affront by religious bigots.
