Disney confirms ‘Coco’ sequel set for 2029 release

The news was revealed by Disney CEO Bob Iger during the company’s Annual Shareholder Meeting, generating excitement among fans and investors.
While the project is still in its early stages, Iger assured audiences that it will capture the heart, humor, and adventure that made the original film a beloved classic.
The sequel will reunite key members of the original creative team, including director Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina. Additionally, Mark Nielsen, known for his work on Toy Story 4 and Inside Out 2, will serve as the producer.
Released in 2017, Coco became an instant favorite, praised for its stunning animation, heartfelt storytelling, and cultural authenticity. The film follows Miguel, a 12-year-old aspiring musician, who accidentally finds himself in the Land of the Dead. As he searches for his great-great-grandfather, a legendary musician, Miguel embarks on a journey of self-discovery, family, and tradition.
Coco won several major accolades, including:
