Kyiv: Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky warned his people and defence forces to brace themselves that Russia would attempt more missile strikes. He warned them to be ready to withstand another week of strain on the power grid, Reuters reported.
The capital has started experiencing the onset of winter after the temperature fell to just above freezing point and snow fell. Authorities informed us that the work to restore power is about to be done.
On his nightly video address, Zelensky said that "terrorists" were planning new attacks, and as long as they possessed missiles, they would not calm down.
In the past week, multiple attacks on power infrastructure caused severe power cuts since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February.
Zelensky said their defence forces, as well as the whole country, are getting ready. They have worked out all the scenarios with their partners, he said.
However, Moscow has not made any immediate response so far.
After Russian annexed areas of Ukraine's east and south in September, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow was not willing to negotiate on its territorial demands. Zelensky retorted along similar lines saying that Ukraine's territorial integrity also cannot be negotiated.
The cold weather is demanding more energy needs, but power production has not yet reached its full capacity in the country after Russian missile strikes on Wednesday and electricity producers needed to conserve energy blackouts.
Reuters reported that the electricity capacity deficit is around 20%. The Wednesday strikes have caused the worst damage to power infrastructure here since the beginning of a Russian invasion. It has left millions in the dark without water and heat while temperatures fell below 0 degrees Celsius.
