London: Hamas has confirmed that the war with Israeli occupation is over, adding that the outfit would not give Israeli forces any excuse to resume aggression, The Canary.co reported.
Khalil al-Hayya, a member of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), further pointed to Israel’s failure in achieving its objectives over the past two years.
It is reported citing Al Jazeera that within 72 hours of the ceasefire Hamas handed over 20 Israeli prisoners, and 17 of the 28 bodies of Israeli prisoners, adding that the search for remaining bodies is underway.
Al-Hayya told the outlet that Hamas has no objection to setting up national administration for Gaza, and would hand over all administrative powers including security to the committee responsible.
Explaining further, Al-Hayya said that an agreement has been made with Fatah and other Palestinian factions over deploying international forces to monitor ceasefire.
Also, he confirmed the UN’s role in reconstruction but without interfering the region’s international administration.
Al-Hayya said that Hamas seeks to hold elections for reuniting the Palestinian national ranks as the Palestinian people want a single authority and government.
Referring to the US involvement, he said that Hamas has assured U.S. envoys Steve Whitcomb and Jared Kushner that the outfits wants stability in the region, adding that President Trump could help deterring Israeli occupation.
Al-Hayya said that as the occupation ends the outfit’s weapons will come under the authority of the state; however, the issue of the weapons, according to him, is still under discussion amid the factions and mediators.
Stressing the increasing humanitarian crisis, he said that Gaza needs 6,000 aid trucks daily where it gets just 600 currently.
He warned that disruption in delivery material violates agreement as it worsens the civilian suffering, hindering reconstruction efforts.
