New York: The victim of a stabbing incident told police that she was attacked in the head by another passenger on a Bloomington Transit bus in southern Indiana Wednesday afternoon.
The attacker turned out to be a 56-year-old woman Billie R. Davis of Bloomington.
The 18-year-old Indiana University student told investigators that she was standing and waiting for the exit doors to open when she was attacked by Davis.
A footage from the bus showed no interaction between the two women prior to the attack, according to news agency AP.
The student, whose name has not been released, was rushed to hospital where she is getting care for multiple stab wounds.
A witness who followed the woman’s attacker and contacted police, which led to Davis being charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery.
The woman attacked the student because of her race, the report said citing court document.
“This week, Bloomington was sadly reminded that anti-Asian hate is real and can have painful impacts on individuals and our community,” the university official James Wimbush reportedly said in a statement.
Mayor John Hamilton said the attack on the bus was “not acceptable” and said it would be “dealt with accordingly.”
Hamilton further added that racially motivated incident like the one on the bus resonates throughout the community, leaving people feeling less safe.
