US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has confirmed Washington's interest in undertaking projects to 'advance peace' in the Middle East, Reuters reported on Thursday. Blinken, in a call with Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi, praised the progress made through the Abraham Accords.
According to a statement by the US State Department, "Foreign Minister Ashkenazi and Secretary Blinken acknowledged the steadfast partnership between the United States and Israel, and that the two countries would work closely together on challenges ahead."
In his first press conference as the Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken said the United States was reviewing several decisions taken by former President Donald Trump's administration. He reiterated the Biden administration's support for the peace deal and notified that the US would only return to the Iran nuclear deal if Tehran complies with its 'reining commitments'. Blinken emphasized that the Biden administration will address a range of issues, which hints to Iran's support of proxy forces in Yemen, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, and the general peace in the Middle East, as well as relations with Russia and China.
