Washington: The US administration admitted on Thursday of having supplied to Ukraine cluster munitions which are banned in more than 100 countries.
White House national security spokesman John Kirby claimed that Ukraine is using cluster munitions that the US supplied to the nation to fight against Russia, Reuters reported.
The acknowledgement of the US administration’s supply of strategic weapons corroborates to the fact that Russia is struggling in Ukraine.
Cluster bombs can kill people over a wide area as they release large numbers of smaller bomblets, which if fail to explode can pose a danger for decades, according to the report.
Kirby told the media that the US got ‘some initial feedback from the Ukrainians, and they're using them quite effectively.’
The national security spokesman confirmed that cluster munitions deal an impact on the Russia’s defense formations and maneuvering in the battlefield.
It is reported that Ukraine has pledged it would restrict use of the bombs to ‘dislodge concentrations of Russian enemy soldiers’.
Russia and Ukraine accused each other of using cluster bombs in the protracted conflict following Russia’s invasion in February 2022.
