US F-35 Fighter Jet goes missing, military seeks public help

New York: The US military officials requested public to help find a Marine Corps fighter jet that has gone missing since Sunday.

While flying over South Carolina’s North Charleston on Sunday afternoon pilot safely ejected the F-35 Lightning II jet after a ‘mishap’, according to the Guardian.

Base authorities are reportedly searching for the jet around two lakes north of Charleston city by coordinating with federal aviation regulators.

A post from the base on X said ‘If you have any information that may help our recovery teams locate the F-35, please call the Base Defense Operations Center.’

Local congresswoman Nancy Mace reacted on X asking why there was no tracking device to locate the jet, adding ‘How in the hell do you lose an F-35?’

The F-35 Lightning II jet manufactured by Lockheed Martin costs around $80 million, AFP reported.
