United Nations: The UN Security Council has expressed grave concern over escalating violence in and around El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur in Sudan, following attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In a statement issued Thursday, council members condemned the RSF assault and its devastating impact on civilians, citing reports of summary executions, arbitrary detentions, and a growing risk of ethnically motivated atrocities, Xinhua news agency reported.
The council called for accountability for all violations and urged all parties to uphold international humanitarian law, protect civilians, and ensure safe, unhindered humanitarian access.
Reiterating the need for a Sudanese-led political process, the council pressed for a return to negotiations aimed at securing a lasting ceasefire. It also urged UN member states to avoid external interference and support efforts for sustainable peace.
