London: Britain's Health Secretary apologised for calling for the country's people not to "cower" in the face of coronavirus, AFP reported.
On Sunday, Health Secretary Sajid Javid, in his apology, said that he was expressing gratitude that vaccines help us fight back as a society, but his words were of poor choice.
Sajid, who had recovered from the disease himself, had tweeted that if anyone has not vaccinated yet, he should do it rather than cower before the virus.
This had sparked criticism that he was disrespecting those who died of the virus in the country . Labour party MP, Yvette Cooper, wrote in criticism that 1,29,000 people who died didn't cower but fought for their lives.
The country is amidst another wave of Covid-19 as the Delta variant arrived there. Deaths and hospitalisations are rising, though lower than during previous waves, thanks to a successful vaccination drive. Though the official statistics from the National Statistics Survey data for the week haven't arrived yet, the daily positive cases are falling in the country.
