Trump reiterates claim of halting India-Pakistan war

New York/Washington: US President Donald Trump doubled down on his assertion Thursday that he personally averted a war between India and Pakistan last year, making the claim twice in one day despite repeated denials from New Delhi.

Speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast, Trump boasted, "In one year, I’ve ended eight raging wars, such as (the war between) Cambodia and Thailand, Kosovo and Serbia, Pakistan and India, Israel and Iran, Armenia and Azerbaijan." Hours later, he repeated the claim on Truth Social, stating he had stopped nuclear war from breaking out between Pakistan and India.

This marks over 90 instances where Trump has credited himself with resolving the India-Pakistan conflict. The narrative traces back to May 10 last year, when he announced on social media that Washington had mediated a "full and immediate" ceasefire between the two nations after a "long night" of talks.

India has consistently rejected any suggestion of third-party mediation in the de-escalation process.
