Washington: The US Mint will begin striking a new $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced on Wednesday.
The coin features a portrait of Trump on one side, with the word "Liberty" above the image and the dates 1776–2026 engraved below it. The inscription "In God We Trust" appears alongside Trump's portrait, while two stars flank the image.
The reverse side depicts an eagle with outstretched wings holding an olive branch in one talon and arrows in the other. A shield bearing the number 250 is placed at the centre.
The phrases "United States of America" and "One Dollar" are engraved around the edge, while the Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum" — meaning "Out of many, one" — appears above the eagle.
"As America commemorates 250 years of independence, the @usmint will begin striking this new $1 gold coin to honour the enduring legacy of liberty and a lasting symbol of patriotism," Bessent said in a post on social media.
"Featuring President Trump, it celebrates the strength of American values, and the promise of a nation dedicated to preserving freedom for all," he added.
The announcement did not specify when the coin would be released or how many would be produced.
It also did not provide details on the coin's metal composition, whether it will enter general circulation, or its availability for collectors.
The US Mint, which produces the country's circulating currency as well as commemorative and collectible coins, is issuing a series of coins to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States' independence.
Earlier this month, the Mint released the Freedom Ringing – Liberty Bell Gold Coins and Silver Medal.
Described as the first non-round coin and medal issued in recent US history, the Liberty Bell-shaped collection is available as a One Ounce Gold Coin, Half Ounce Gold Coin, and Half Ounce Silver Medal.
