Trump again claims he ended India-Pakistan war, laments missing Nobel

New York: US President Donald Trump has reiterated his claim of resolving eight major wars, including averting a nuclear confrontation between India and Pakistan, while lamenting his exclusion from the Nobel Peace Prize.

In a New York Times interview last week, Trump stated, "I ended eight wars. I — If you look at those wars, these were tough wars to end, too. And let me tell you, India and Pakistan were going at it. As you know, they were going at it…But that was one of eight. But we ended eight strong wars. Some have been going on for more than 30 years," asserting he intervened when "eight jets were shot out of the air." Obama got it. He was there for a few weeks, and he got it. He didn’t even know why he got it. They asked him, why did he get it? He was unable to answer the question."

The President repeated the claim multiple times last week, about 80 times since May 2024, citing a supposed US-mediated ceasefire after "a long night of talks." He quoted Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif as crediting him with saving "a minimum of 10 million lives."

India has consistently denied any third-party mediation in the ceasefire.

Trump made similar assertions during a White House meeting with oil executives and in a Fox News interview, framing the India-Pakistan crisis as one of several long-running conflicts he resolved "in rapid order without nuclear weapons."
