Terror attack threat: US, UK warn people to leave Kabul airport

Kabul: The US  and UK have urged crowds trying to access Kabul airport to leave the area, citing a terrorist attack warning issued by British and Australian governments, reports Al Jazeera.

The "high threat" warnings came out on Thursday as Western troops were evacuating as many foreign nationals and Afghans as possible before the deadline on August 31.

The US State Department alerted that people at Abbey Gate, East Gate or North Gate should leave the premises immediately.

Australian Department of Foreign Affairs had issued a threat alert of "very high threat of terrorist attack" and asked people not to enter the airport."

Meanwhile, the British government advised Afghans that if they have any other means to evacuate the territory, resort to it immediately.

The US army had informed the media that there are more than 10,000 people waiting at Kabul airport to be evacuated while the terrorist attack warning was issued.

Pentagon claimed that they had evacuated 19,000 people in 24 hours and 80,000 people since August 14 when the Taliban took over Kabul. But the US State Department informed that 1500 US citizens are still in Afghanistan.
