Sofia: A passenger flight travelling from Tel Aviv to Vienna made an emergency landing in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, on Sunday evening following a bomb threat, Bulgarian state television reported.
Citing a statement from the country’s transport ministry, the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) said the aircraft was carrying 51 passengers and six crew members when a crew member received the threat.
Bulgarian air force fighter jets escorted the Airbus A320 until it landed safely in Sofia. The defence ministry confirmed that the jets were scrambled after the bomb threat was reported.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. The airline operating the flight has not been identified.
