In a tense situation at a prison in southern Russia, two guards taken hostage by Islamic State inmates have been freed unharmed.
The incident occurred at Detention Centre Number One in the Rostov region.
According to a statement from the country's prison service, a special operation was launched, resulting in the "liquidation" of the assailants. "During the special operation... the criminals were liquidated and the employees taken hostage were freed and were not wounded," the statement read.
The swift and effective action by the authorities ensured the safety of the hostages and neutralized the threat posed by the inmates.
