Russian balloons meant to ‘exhaust Ukraine missiles’ shot down over Kyiv

Kyiv: Ukraine claimed on Wednesday to have shot down most of the half a dozen balloons hovering on the capital city Kyiv, apparently deployed by Russia.

Ukraine authorities said the balloons could carry ‘reconnaissance equipment’ meant to ‘detect and exhaust our air defence forces’, AFP reported.

The capital city’s administration said the debris of the balloons would be carefully examined.

Upon finding balloons over the Ukraine city, sirens that are in place to alert about approaching missiles went off in Kyiv.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ignat claimed that Russia uses cheap balloons to ‘exhaust’ Ukraine’s anti-aircraft missiles.

Yuriy Ignat’s observation goes well with Ukraine’s repeated detecting of balloons drifting in Ukraine’s skies since Russian invasion last February.

Ukraine’s sighting of balloons comes a day after neigbouring Moldova closed its airspace after seeing flying objects amid tensions with Russia.

The episode of sighting flying objects were reported in the US causing a state of alarm in the nation last week.

A huge white balloon from China was spotted over American nuclear weapon sites and authorities quickly got it shot down.
