Russia sends Tehran elite command jet as US-Iran conflict deepens

Tehran: Amid growing war fears in West Asia, Russia's highly secure Tu-214PU airborne command aircraft has reportedly arrived in Tehran, with its presence confirmed through flight-tracking data. Reserved for the Kremlin's top leadership, the aircraft is designed to coordinate military operations during emergencies and serves as a flying command post capable of directing government functions during crises.

Unlike conventional VIP aircraft, the Tu-214PU is built to operate in high-risk situations with advanced secure communication and command-and-control systems. It possesses security capabilities comparable to Russia's "doomsday" aircraft and is operated by the Rossiya Special Flight Squadron, which serves Russia's military and political leadership.

International observers assess that discussions may have taken place on strengthening military and technical cooperation between Moscow and Tehran and sharing critical intelligence. The aircraft's arrival in Tehran is also being viewed as a major warning to the United States and its allies.

The Tu-214PU is based on the Soviet-designed Tu-204 medium-range aircraft and has been extensively modified for secure communications and command missions. Russia has repeatedly announced plans to increase Tu-214 production to reduce reliance on foreign aerospace technology.

The development comes as attacks between the United States and Iran intensify. Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz, while the U.S. continues strikes on Iranian air defence systems and missile sites. Iran has responded by attacking U.S. military bases in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan.
