London: In the mega Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Queen Elizabeth II's 70 years on the British throne, a sari made of sustainable recycled plastics will be exhibited on puppets, PTI reports.
The celebration, which will host more than 2,00,000 local events and parties, will feature the sari on four-meter-high puppets on an extended weekend from Thursday to Sunday.
Also, a special Bollywood-themed Wedding Party ensemble at the Platinum Jubilee Pageant finale on Sunday and will be curated by UK-based South Asian performance company Nutkhut. "To re-imagine the sari, a timeless garment, for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Pageant is both an honour and a joy," said Nutkhut Co-Artistic Director Simmy Gupta
The sari was designed by Irish fashion designer Paul Costelloe, which was created as a group project by Arts University Bournemouth students.
The Platinum Jubilee Pageant will pass through The Mall in London and culminate at Buckingham Palace. It will feature 150 performers, including singer Ed Sheeran. A large Dragon puppet, corgis, acrobats, dancers and circus acts etc., also fill the pageant, which is to be broadcast through big screens in London, Edinburgh's Princes Street Gardens and Cardiff's Bute Park.
The events start on Thursday with the Queen's Birthday Parade at Horseguards Parade in London and will be followed by a Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul's Cathedral on Friday. Then a Party will go on at the Palace concert on Saturday night which will also feature famous performers.
