People at a nightclub danced around slain American rapper's propped up body

New Delhi: Family and fans of the slain American rapper Markelle Morrow went too far celebrating his death, reports say.

Imagine a lifeless body being propped up at a nightclub while people danced around it.

The macabre video with images reportedly resembling some medieval ritual turned viral, showing the artist's body as a 'prop' in his own funeral.

Markelle Morrow, 24, was last month found shot in a parking lot in District Heights, Maryland.

He died in a hospital later succumbing to wounds. A probe is underway into the shooting, reports say.

Looking like a mannequin in designer clothes and a crown, Morrow's body was propped at a nightclub in Washington DC.

His family and friends turned up to throw him a "going-away party".

People were making merry, dancing, singing around the rapper while the corpse looked down on them from the stage, according to a report in India Today.

His mother Patrice Morrow, rather than grieving and shedding tears, said that she didn't want to be sad at her son's death. She told Fox 5 DC that celebration was the best way to honour his life.

Morrow, either anticipating or facing criticism, told Fox 5 DC that people just saying what they wanted to say and she was pleased with how she sent her son away. She wished people allow her grieve in peace.

However, the nightclub later apologised saying the club was never made aware of what would transpire. The venue, it said, was booked by a local funeral home for a celebration.
