Pakistan PM Imran Khan's life in danger, plot hatched to assassinate him: PTI leader

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Faisal Vawda has claimed that Prime Minister Imran Khan's life is in danger as a plot has been hatched to assassinate him.

His claim comes as the PTI's key ally in the Centre, MQM-P, decided to switch sides and become a part of the Opposition to support its no-confidence motion against the premier.

Faisal Vawda said that PM Imran Khan has been advised to use a bulletproof shield while addressing the public gatherings as there was a plan to assassinate the leader but the PM said he will leave this world at the time fixed by Almighty Allah, India-based news agency ANI reported quoting ARY News' "Off the Record" programme.

During his conversation with the channel, the PTI leader also affirmed Khan's position amid the political chaos in the country. He said that the PM is brave and will not let the nation bow down before anyone.

Vawda further cleared the air on Khan's stance on foreign policy as he said that now Pakistan will not become part of "anyone's war", adding that that airbases of the country will not be given to anyone to "attack our neighbouring countries".

In response to a question, the former Minister said the plot was linked to the "secretive" memo that the government had received.

"There isn't just one letter, there are several letters," he claimed.

The Prime Minister has seemingly lost the majority of the National Assembly as several allies have left the government's camp and decided to back the Opposition, and currently, the treasury benches have 164 members, while the Opposition has 177, and they need 172 to oust the premier.

Meanwhile, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry said that Prime Minister Imran Khan met the military leadership of the country twice, adding that "no one has asked him to resign neither does he plan to do so", Geo News reported.

Fawad, addressing a press conference alongside Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Communications Shahbaz Gill, said that the ruling PTI "respects" the military leadership.

Speaking about the letter allegedly threatening the incumbent government, Fawad said that "such threats" were unacceptable to any independent country.

"Imran Khan will fight for the sovereignty of Pakistan. We will present the letter before the Parliament in an in-camera session. We can share the details of the letter with the Opposition," said Fawad.
