Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's daughter Kim Ju-ae too was recently seen wearing a $2,800 Dior jacket at a missile launch. The girl is thought to be 10-11 years old and was photographed by state media last week.
She was seen wearing a black quilted jacket at the Hwasong-17 test launch on March 16. It was South Korean broadcaster TV Chosun that identified the design and connected it back to the French luxury fashion house.
It is unclear whether the jacket is fake or not. Kim Ju Ae's mother is known for her taste in luxury and has been photographed with purses that look like designer brands like Dior and Chanel. North Korea's socialist ideology does not support the consumption of luxury goods but the elites are known to defy these sanctions.
There is also a UN resolution prohibiting the export of luxury goods to North Korea but the Kim regime continues to maintain sophisticated procurement capabilities through U.S.-allied countries despite sanctions, said a report named Lux & Loaded: Exposing North Korea’s Strategic Procurement Networks. The leader himself is often seen in luxury cars.
The presence of luxury goods among the elite is criticised considering many people are living in poverty in the country.
