‘Massive floods on Christmas, world will end’: Godman builds 10 arks in Ghana

Accra: Followers of a self-proclaimed godman in Ghana were left stranded after believing his doomsday warnings that the world would end in massive floods on Christmas. The man, Ebo Enoch, later claimed that the disaster had been temporarily averted due to his prayers.

Ebo Enoch, from Ghana, gained attention on social media for claiming months ago that he received a divine message about a catastrophic flood starting on December 25, which would continue for three years. In a YouTube video posted in August, he warned of relentless rains beginning on Christmas Day. He also claimed that God instructed him to build arks to save people from the impending disaster. Following this, Enoch published videos on YouTube and X showing large wooden boats he had constructed, claiming he had built ten arks.

Many people believed his warnings, particularly after heavy rains had occurred in parts of Ghana in recent months, which heightened public anxiety. Dozens of followers, hoping to survive the foretold apocalypse, travelled to the coastal town of Elmina in Ghana from Liberia, boarding the so-called arks to escape the predicted flood.

Scenes of a man who travelled from Liberia to Ghana and became stranded in Elmina, crying and unsure of what to do next, have gone viral on social media. One family had even moved closer to an ark in anticipation of the flood. After reports emerged that the disaster had been postponed, he allegedly set fire to one of the arks in anger, according to local media.

Ebo Enoch said that further divine intervention had delayed the catastrophe. “I prayed, fasted, gave donations, worked hard, and through my prayers I received another vision. I shared this vision with some of God’s great beings. Therefore, in addition to the 10 arks, God has given us more time to build additional arks to accommodate everyone. I am not selling tickets or asking anyone for money, so please stay at home,” he said.

Enoch insisted he never collected money from his followers. However, reports surfaced that he purchased a Mercedes-Benz worth about $89,000. Photos of the luxury car went viral, prompting allegations that funds intended for the arks were instead used to finance his lavish lifestyle.
