Kabul: After the Taliban in Afghanistan banned university education for girls, male students in the country abandoned their classes in protest. They said that they would return to classes only after female students were allowed higher education, Asian News International reported, citing Tolo news.
A male student, Muzamel, a protester, said that they would continue boycotting classes and if classes for women are not opened, they will not continue education.
Nawidullah said that since universities are closed for their sisters, they don’t want to go there either.
In the meantime, many lecturers at Kabul University requested Taiban to reconsider its decision and said that the closing of educational institutes is unfortunate. One of them, Tawfiqullah, said that the lecturers wanted the Islamic Emirate to reopen universities for girls.
A student, Mohebulah, said that his two sisters were doing higher education. Since they could not continue, he is also discontinuing his studies, he said.
Earlier this month, Afghanistan’s Ministry of Higher Education suspended university education for female students. This caused widespread protest and condemnation across the globe.
ANI reports that since the fall of Kabul on August 15, 2021, the de facto regime, Taliban, in Afghanistan has been barring girls from attending secondary schools, restricted women and girls’ freedom of movement, removed them from most of the jobs and prohibited them from using parks, gyms and public bath houses.
