Madrid: Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz's proposal that Spain take in displaced Palestinians from Gaza was rejected by Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares on Thursday.
“Gazans’ land is Gaza and Gaza must be part of the future Palestinian state,” Albares said in an interview with Spanish radio station RNE.
Following US President Donald Trump's shocking announcement that the United States intends to take over Gaza, resettle the Palestinians living there, and turn the territory into the "Riviera of the Middle East," Katz instructed the army on Thursday to develop a plan to allow the "voluntary departure" of residents from the Gaza Strip, according to Israeli media, Reuters reported.
Katz also added that Spain, Ireland, and Norway—all of which recognised a Palestinian state last year—are "legally obligated to allow any Gaza resident to enter their territories.”
